The 1930 census and all existing Soundex indexes will become available on April 1, 2002 at the National Archives Building, 700 Pennsylvania Ave., N.W., Washington, DC 20408-0001, and at NARA's regional facilities in 13 major cities.
The 1930 and later censuses are not available for public use because of a statutory 72-year restriction on access for privacy reasons. (92 Stat. 915; Public Law 95-416; October 5, 1978).
The census day was April 1, 1930.
NARA is now accepting "whole state" and "whole country" orders for microfilmed 1930 census schedules (T626) and related microfilmed 1930 Soundexes. The microfilm will be shipped the first week of April 2002. The price is $34 per roll ordered ($39 to foreign addresses) for black-and-white microfilm (census schedules and Soundex). Credit card orders are accepted at 1-800-234-8861.
All other 1930 census schedule and related Soundex microfilm purchases (individual rolls, less than a "whole state") will be accepted beginning April 1, 2002.
Microfilm publication T1224, Descriptions of Census Enumeration Districts, 1830-1950 (156 rolls), 35mm black-and-white microfilm, is $34 per roll ordered ($39 to foreign addresses), and can be shipped upon completion of your order. Credit card orders are accepted at 1-800-234-8861.
Microfilm publication M1930, Enumeration District Maps for the Fifteenth Census of the United States, 1930 (36 rolls), 35mm color microfilm, is $51 per roll ordered ($56 to foreign addresses), and can be shipped upon completion of your order. Credit card orders are accepted at 1-800-234-8861.
Microfilm publication M1931, Index to Selected City Streets and Enumeration Districts, 1930 Census (7 rolls), 35mm black-and-white microfilm, is $34 per roll ordered ($39 to foreign addresses), and can be shipped upon completion of your order. Credit card orders are accepted at 1-800-234-8861.
The NARA Census Microfilm Rental Program will begin renting 1930 census microfilm on April 1, 2002. Watch this space for more information!
